Sludge reduction modelling


Current ASM models use the concept of the yield coefficient. However, only one fixed yield can be used for different types of organisms, different types of carbon and nitrogen species. However, in reality, this is not the case as different yields can occur. This will lead to erroneous sludge production predictions. Moreover, sludge reduction strategies cannot be developed. This project aims at extending ASM models with various yield coefficients. In preparation, detailed experiments will be performed with sludge from the WWTP Blue Plains in the DC area of the US.
